Bediüzzaman Said Nursî, 1878 yılında Bitlis'in Hizan Kazasına bağlı İsparit Nahiyesinin Nurs Köyünde dünyaya geldi. Öğrenim hayatına dokuz yaşında Tağ Köyündeki medresede başladı. Eğitim hayatı çok hareketli geçti. Kendine uygun medrese arayışıyla yaşadığı bölgede bir çok medreselerde kısa sürelerle bulundu. Bu arayış yaklaşık üç yıl sürdü.
